Valentino, the last emperor of fashion

On May 11 of the previous year, Italian fashion designer Valentino Garavani turned 90. Even though he has been retired for more than ten years as “the last emperor of fashion,” as he is most generally referred to, his talent and sense of style show a before and after in the runway industry.

Jackie Kennedy selected him to design her wedding dress for her union with Aristotle Onassis, while Julia Roberts accepted her Academy Award while donning one of his creations. Her amazing and elegant designs won the hearts of numerous celebrities, aristocracy, and even members of royalty.

His enhancement of the female form, keen eye, and attention to detail define his creations. In honor of how important Garavani was to the fashion world, Valentino Red carries his name.

When he retired, his former coworkers Maria Garzia Chiuri, now employed by Dior, and Pierpaolo Piccioli, now head of their business, continued his creative vision and improved the industry.
